Disaster is a curse which can affect any geographical location any time and can severely disrupt normal life there by causing catastrophic damages to property. It is absolutely impossible to avoid disaster but we can mitigate strategies by implementation of which the aftermath of disaster can be minimized. Disasters include natural disasters, environmental disaster, complex emergencies and pandemic emergencies.
The vision of CHETNA is to build a safer and disaster resilient village of India by developing a holistic, proactive multidisaster technologically driven strategy for disaster management which can be achieved by adopting a culture of preventation awareness and preparedness to reduce the impact of disaster upon people. The major strategies undertaken by CHETNA to mitigate Disaster are
PROGRAMMES
- Vulnerability assessment and risk analysis of a disasters and thereby implementing proper coordination with the state administrative machinery for faster relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
- Creating awareness for improving preparedness amongst the communities to tackle any sort of natural, pandemic, or environmental disaster, by the help of CHETNA volunteers, using all medias available.
- Providing food packets, cloths, tarpaulin, essential medicines among fire ravaged and flood affected victims on emergency basis.
- To create detailed database on hazard occurrences, damage caused to buildings and infrastructure and the economic losses suffered and ensure its accessibility to interested researchers for effective analysis so that they can effectively design disaster mitigation strategies for that particular village.
- Establishment of make shift medical camp and special relief cell at flood affected villages of Bhagalpur district consisting of doctors and CHETNA volunteers and thereby providing preliminary medical support.
